Travel frauds are, home based travel agent I am told, the second highest of international scams. Statistics show
that the loss from these frauds last year was 100% higher per incident than the previous
year. It rose from US$400 plus to US$800 plus. Travel agents are as vulnerable to scams
as the travellers and the seemingly attractive offers usually emanate from ?clubs? which
promise special discounts and privileges for ?members?.

There are travel agency deals which offer passenger memberships through ?clubs?.
Membership costs a sizeable sum of money which is expected to take you on idyllic trips
in luxury. However, real life experience has shown that the travels organised on these
lines fall far short of promises. Complaints are fended off by invoking the fine print of
the membership agreement which has disclaimers.

Travel agent deals offer tempting travel privileges for travel agents who join special
clubs for agents. Particularly vulnerable to this kind of scam is the home based travel
agent who is not necessarily a skilled professional. In real life money is taken for
memberships and often travel is offered with deficient service. The small print is the
usual response to complaints.

Caution is the key word and it cannot be overly used.
